The Old Grandfather and His Grandson
Once upon a time, there was a very old grandfather. His eyes were almost
blind. His ears were deaf and his knees shook. When he sat at the table, he
couldn’t hold the spoon strongly. He spilled soup on the tablecloth. Besides,
some of his soup would run back out of his mouth.
His son and his son’s wife were annoyed. Finally, they made the old
grandfather sat in the corner behind the stove. They gave him not enough food
in clay bowl. He sat there and looked at them sadly. He was almost crying.
One day the old grandfather could not hold the bowl because his hands were
too weak. The bowl fell to the ground and broke. The woman scolded him.
However, the old grandfather didn’t say anything. He could not cry. Then, he
bought him a wooden bowl and made him eat from it.
Once the husband and his wife were sitting in the dining room, their
four-year-old son put together some pieces of wood on the floor. His father
asked him what he was doing. The little child said that he was making a bowl
for his father and mother to eat from when he became an adult.
The man and the woman
looked at each other. They began to cry. They bought their old grandfather to
the table immediately. Since then, they always let him there. If he spilled a
little, they did not say anything.

The Legend of Nyi Roro Kidul
(The
Queen of South Ocean)
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess named Kadita. Because of her beauty she was called Dewi Srengenge. It meant the goddess of sun. Her father was King Munding Wangi. Although he had a beautiful daughter, he was unhappy because he always expected to have a son.
The king decided to marry Dewi Mutiara. He had a son from her. Dewi Mutiara wanted her son to become a king in the future. She asked the King to send his daughter away. The king did not agree.
Dewi Mutiara called a black wizard to curse Kadita. She wanted Kadita’s beautiful body full of ulcer. Then, Kadita’s body was full of ulcer. It smelled bad. The beautiful princess cried.
The King was sad. No one could cure his daughter’s illness. The king did not want her daughter to be a rumor so he sent her away.
The poor princess did not know where to go. However, she had a noble heart. She did not have any bad feeling about her step mother. She walked for almost seven days and seven nights. Then, she came to the south Ocean. The ocean was so clean and clear. She jumped into the water and swam.
Suddenly, there was a miracle. The ocean water cured her illness. She became more beautiful than before. She also had a power to command the whole South Ocean. She became a fairy called Nyi Roro Kidul or The Queen of South Ocean.

Narrative Text ( The Goose that Laid Golden Eggs )
The Goose that Laid Golden Eggs
Once upon a time, there lived a happy
family in a village. A man and his wife lived happily on a little farm, tending
their flock of geese and selling their eggs at the market. They were not rich,
but they were happy with their life together.
Then one day a new goose flew in among
their flock. The couple was surprised to find a shiny golden egg in her nest.
Each and every day after that, the goose laid another egg of solid gold!
The couple was soon richer than they had
ever dreamed of, but they were not happy. They grew impatient with only one
golden egg a day. The farmer said to his wife, "Our goose must be full of
gold. Why should we wait to have more eggs?"
"If we cut her open," his wife
agreed, "we can get all the eggs at once." So they killed the goose!
They were very surprised to find that it was just like any other goose inside.
Even worse, there would never be any more golden eggs!
Narrative Text ( Antony and Cleopatra )
Love Story of Antony and Cleopatra
Antony became one of the three rulers of the Roman Empire, together with Octavius Caesar and Lepidus, and was responsible for the eastern part of the empire. He fell in love with Cleopatra, the Queen of Egypt.
As his wife had just died Antony married Octavius’ sister, Octavia, in an attempt to heal the rift between the two emperors. When Cleopatra heard about Antony’s marriage she flew into a jealous rage as she knew that Antony did not love Octavia. Antony went to Athens when war broke out between Caesar and Pompey, Antony sent Octavia back to Rome and he returned to Egypt.
Caesar was very angry with Antony’s behaviour and he declared war on both Antony and Cleopatra. When the Romans arrived, Antony was offered a choice of how to fight. He chose to fight on sea. The Egyptian navy was inadequate. When Cleopatra’s navy turned and fled, Antony followed them. Caesar defeated him.
Antony got news that Cleopatra was dead. Antony was devastated and decided to kill himself. He wounded himself without dying. His followers took him to Cleopatra’s tomb, where he died in her arms.

Narrative Text ( Farmer and a Box )
Farmer and a Box
Once time, there was a poor farmer. He lived with his wife. One day, he dug up his field and found a big box. He then kept it in their house.
One sunny morning, his wife dropped an apple in the box. Suddenly, the box begun filled with apples. No matter how many apples were taken out, more apples took place in the box.
One day, the framer dropped a gold coin into that box. At once, apples disappeared and the box begun filled up with gold coins. Soon the farmer became rich.
Having heard that his son got rich, the framer's father visited the couple. His father was not very strong. He could not go out to work anymore. So the farmer asked his old father to help him take the gold coins out of the box.
His father worked hard, took the gold coins out of the box. When he told that he was very tired and wanted to have a rest, the farmer shouted at him; "Why are you so lazy? Why can't you work harder?. The old man said nothing and continued to work. Suddenly the old man fell into the box, he died. At once the gold coins disappeared and the box begun filled up with dead men.
The framer had to pull out and burried. To do this, the farmer had to spend all the money which he had collected before. When he had used up all his money, the box broke. The farmer was just as poor as before.

Narrative Text ( Sarah and Her Step Mother )
Sarah
and Her Step Mother
Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl called Sarah, who lived with her step mother. Her step mother was very bossy, greedy and arrogant. She hated Sarah a lot.
One day when her father was working outside, the step mother hit Sarah and expelled her from the house. She went outside and walked far away from the house. Suddenly she saw a big melon farm and went in it. After that she hid in a big melon. She used to go out of the melon and get her food.
One day a prince visited the farm and saw the big melon. “Cut this melon I want to eat it,’’ the prince said. The prince’s guards started to cut the melon but they heard a voice from it. Sarah said “Don’t cut me please!” They were all surprised at this situation. The prince said “Who are you? Calm down, please come out.” After that she came out. He fell in love with her.
She told him her story so the prince decided to marry her and they lived happily ever after.

Narrative Text ( Rabbit and Bear )
Rabbit and Bear
Once upon a time, there lived as neighbours, a bear
and a rabbit. The rabbit is a good shot. In contrary, the bear is always clumsy
ad could not use the arrow to good advantage.
One day, the bear called over the rabbit and asked the
rabbit to take his bow and arrows and came with bear to the other side of the
hill. The rabbit feared to arouse the bear's anger so he could not refuse it. He
consented and went with the bear and shot enough buffalo to satisfy the hungry
family. Indeed he shot and killed so many that there was lots of meat left
after the bear and his family had loaded themselves and packed all they could
carry home.
The bear was very gluttonous and did not want the
rabbit to get any of the meat. The rabbit could not even taste the blood from
the butchering as the bear would throw earth on the blood and dry it up. The
poor rabbit would have to go home hungry after his hard day's work.
The bear was the father of five children. The youngest
child was very kind to the rabbit. He was very hearty eater. The mother bear
always gave him an extra large piece of meat but the youngest child did not eat
it. He would take it outside with him and pretended to play ball with the meat.
He kicked toward the rabbit's house and when he got close to the door he would
give the meat with such a great kick. The meat would fly into the rabbit's
house. In this way, the poor rabbit would get his meal unknown to the papa
bear.
